Greg Henrikson, a lawyer in Eagle River, became fascinated with Medieval History and delved into medieval calligraphy for the Historic Recrudescence Guild (HRG), a Medieval Re-enactment group. The HRG sets up a medieval village annually at the Three Barons Renaissance Fair in Anchorage, Alaska. Pamyua (bum-yo-ah) is a musical group that has gained worldwide recognition. Founded by Inuit Yup'ik African American brothers Phillip Kilirnguq Blanchett and Steven Qacungatarli Blanchett, the group produces music with traditional Yup’ik and African-American elements to create what they call "Inuit Soul." They are also the group behind the theme song for the @PBSKIDS show, @MollyofDenali. Angela Łot'oydaatlno Gonzalez is a Koyukon Athabascan woman who learned traditional beading as a child. But with the hustle and bustle of adulthood, she lost touch with some of her Alaska Native cultural traditions. Alaskans all have their own taste when it comes to fashion, but one style, in particular, has grown in popularity throughout the years. Sheila Ezelle absolutely loves making custom kuspuks (Qaspeks) for the summer and parkys for the winter. Every parky that she makes she excitedly thinks to herself, “My - this is the best parky I have ever made!” For the past 35 years, she has owned her grandmother’s business “Laura Wright’s Alaskan Parkys;” which was originally founded in 1947. Throughout time, the popularity of this traditional Alaska Native, multi-use, casual outfit has increased and has become a symbol of Alaskan identity.
